Dear MIA, As a gender fluid youth, my identity changes a lot. I also surround myself with Queer friends. Although I am grateful to have supportive parents, I know this is not the case for everyone. My family is originally from [redacted], where homophobic practices like [redacted] were common. Forcing someone to out themselves can be life-threatening. It’s a very intimate part of someone’s life, and having supportive parents is a rare privilege. School is tough; asking us to be exposed is a violation of our bodily autonomy. Kids are told consent matters, so why is it suddenly allowed to be disregarded?
